(Clery Timely Warning)
Type of Offense: Criminal Homicide
Today’s Date: September 23, 2024
Date and Time of Occurrence: September 22, 2024 @ 10:59 p.m.
Location: University of Arizona – volleyball courts near Park Ave. and Fourth St.
Reporting Agency: University of Arizona Police Department / Case # U2409220010
Synopsis of Crime or Offense: University of Arizona Police Department (UAPD) received notification from Tucson Police Department (TPD) regarding a shooting outside Arizona Sonora Residence Hall near Park Ave. and Fourth St.
When officers arrived on scene at 11:01 p.m. they were directed to a parking lot south of the residence hall. They located a college age male lying next to a car. Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was shot by the suspect on the volleyball courts following an altercation between several individuals. Witnesses carried the victim to a car intending to take him to the hospital but waited for emergency personnel in the parking lot. UAPD officers and emergency medical personnel attempted life saving measures. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene. The victim was a student at Pima Community College. No other injuries were reported.
Suspect fled the scene and has not been located. The investigation is ongoing.
UAPD will be conducting extra patrols.
Suspect Description: Male, 6 foot tall, 19-25 year old, dark skin described by witnesses as Middle Eastern or Hispanic descent. Collar-length, dark curly hair with facial hair. He was last seen wearing a white short-sleeve t-shirt with tan shorts. Witnesses described the weapon used as a small black handgun. He fled on foot, northbound from the volleyball courts.
Status: UAPD is actively working the investigation and there is an ongoing search for the suspect.
Definitions:
Criminal Homicide includes Murder, Non-negligent and Negligent Manslaughter: The willful killing of one human being by another. Manslaughter by Negligence: The killing of another person through gross negligence.
