UAPD Response to First Amendment Events

When a demonstration or protest occurs at our campus community, the University of Arizona Police Department (UAPD) may respond to the location of the event or the near vicinity to support the constitutional rights of assembly and speech of individuals. Productive dialog between UAPD and individuals involved with the demonstration or protest can help the individuals involved in knowing the UAPD response and may help further the safety of the event and individuals involved. Enforcement activity taken by UAPD at a demonstration or protest is to support the safety of the community by addressing criminal violations such as violence and extreme incidents of damage. Police officers may be wearing additional protective gear and have equipment to support their safety and ability to counter individuals who fail to comply with lawful orders or present a risk of harm to the officers or others.
