Qualifications and Hiring Process

The University of Arizona Police Department seeks entry level applicants to attend the Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Training Academy. Those interested in becoming a UA Police Officer must demonstrate effective critical thinking skills, exhibit sound judgment, and be healthy both physically and emotionally.
 

Do you qualify?

Applicants should be mindful that AZPOST establishes the minimum standards. These requirements include:

  • United States citizen.
  • At least 21 years old upon graduation from the police academy.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license. (Out of state applicants shall obtain an Arizona driver's license at time of hire.)
  • If prior military, must have been honorably discharged.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Must meet Arizona Peace Officers Standards & Training drug standards. (For more information, please click here.)

BEGINNING THE APPLICATION PROCESS

  1. Complete an online application at talent.arizona.edu
  2. Complete a Personal History Questionnaire (this will be sent to you once you have applied).

Peace Officer Physical Aptitude Test (POPAT)
•             500-yard run
•             99-yard obstacle course
•             165lb body drag (32 feet)
•             Climbing over a 6-foot chain link fence
•             6-foot solid wall

Written Exam: Following successful completion of the physical assessment, applicants will need to pass a written exam. *A POST study guide and practice test for the written exam can be found online at the Apply to Serve website.

Oral Board Interview
 
Extensive Background Investigation: to include a polygraph, psychological, physical 
examination, and drug test.
