2022 Arizona GOHS Grants Awarded to UAPD

TUCSON, Arizona. – The University of Arizona Police Department (UAPD) has been awarded three grants by the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS). The grants, totaling $24,390, began on October 1, 2021, as part of the 2022 fiscal year. These grants provide support for the deployment of additional officers to monitor and enforce impaired driving (driving under the influence or DUI), bicycle & pedestrian enforcement, and routine traffic monitoring and enforcement in and around the University of Arizona campus.

Compliance with traffic & pedestrian laws is crucial to maintaining the safety of our community. As part of an ongoing effort, UAPD is regularly involved in the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force to address DUI and impaired driver enforcement. With these grants, UAPD can continue our participation in this task force as well as supplement our daily operations during peak traffic periods to provide additional enforcement as well as education to the public.

UAPD reminds our community to remain alert while traveling, obey all traffic laws, don’t drive impaired or distracted, and always drink responsibly and legally.

GOHS, along with Director Alberto Gutier, remain partners with UAPD in the promotion of public safety through education and enforcement. For more information on GOHS programs, please visit the GOHS website
