UAPD Introduces Crisis Response K-9 Maggie
University of Arizona Police Department – 1852 E. First Street

TUCSON, Arizona – The University of Arizona Police Department (UAPD) is pleased to introduce the newest addition to our department: Crisis Response K-9 Maggie! A 4-month-old Black Labrador, Maggie was provided through a grant from the Southern Arizona Law Enforcement Foundation (SALEF). Her handler/partner is Detective Nicole Nelson, a 4-year veteran of UAPD.

As our first Crisis Response K-9 team, Det. Nelson and Maggie will have multiple roles on campus, including:

  • Bolstering our ability to benefit and protect the well-being of our first responders as part of the recently created UAPD Peer Support Program.
  • Supporting UAPD’s community engagement efforts by providing positive interactions between our department and the public.
  • Responding to critical incidents to provide emotional support to victims of traumatic crimes.

We are excited to have this approachable, embraceable, and dedicated K-9 team as part of our UAPD family. Please join us in welcoming Maggie to the University of Arizona campus!
