A caller representing themselves as a member of law enforcement with the University of Arizona Police Department (UAPD) contacted an individual via telephone requesting a funds transfer via Venmo or Zelle to provide bail for a family member of the call recipient. The number identified on caller ID indicated the call was coming from UAPD.

The UAPD does not call members of the community to solicit payments on behalf of other persons and will not request personal financial identifiers, login names, passwords and payments made through funds transfers.

If at any time you question the validity of a phone call from the UAPD please call our main number (520) 621-8273 and speak with a UAPD representative.

Regarding phone and email scams remember the following tips.

• Do not share personal information such as identifiers or financial information over the phone especially on a call you did not initiate.
