Tucson, Arizona – The University of Arizona Police Department (UAPD) responded to the area of 1303 E. University (Student Union) reference a man with a gun.
On August 24th, 2022, at 0942 hours, UAPD received 9-1-1 calls reporting a suspicious man with a gun on campus. UAPD officers responded to the area within seconds. A UAlert was sent out campus-wide to advise the campus community of the incident and location. UAPD officers saw a male matching the description of the suspect who had a gun in his waistband, and they attempted to make contact. The male ran from officers as they attempted to speak with him. UAPD set up containment in the area to locate the subject. Moments later officers located a subject matching the description on the southeast side of the Student Union. The male fled from officers again. Officers observed the male with a gun in his hand as he was fleeing and took him into custody after a short foot pursuit through the Student Union. The male, who was later identified as Hunter Paddlety (22), was booked into the Pima County Jail for violation of ARS 13-2904A Reckless Display of a Deadly Weapon, ARS 13-2904A Disorderly Conduct and 13-2911A Interference or Obstruction of an Educational Institution.
