Arrest Made in Residential Burglary
(Clery Timely Warning – Issued on May 26, 2024)

Tucson, Arizona – The University of Arizona Police Department (UAPD) arrested Henry Tavel, 42, on charges of Second Degree Burglary, Possession of Dangerous Drugs, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Prescription Drugs.

On May 25, 2024, at 10:09 p.m., UAPD received a report of a burglary at Theta Xi Fraternity that occurred the day before. Surveillance cameras on the property showed an unidentified male carrying two bags enter the house through the front door. The cameras captured the same male carrying additional bags and then exit the back door. At the time of the incident there were no residents present at the fraternity house.

On May 27, 2024, at 06:12 a.m., UAPD received another report of a man inside the same fraternity house, and no residents were present. UAPD dayshift units responded to the fraternity house where they found and detained one male later identified as Henry Tavel still inside the fraternity house. A resident of the fraternity house remotely saw Tavel via live surveillance camera footage. Based on the physical descriptors Tavel was identified as the same man from the original case.

In addition to his arrest, Tavel was issued an Exclusionary Order from the University. UAPD would like to highlight the speed of response, professionalism and thorough investigation of the Field Operations Division officers that led to Tavel’s arrest. Additionally, we thank the fraternity house residents for their prompt reporting to UAPD and value their cooperation in furtherance of protecting their housing community and our university campus.
