Arrest Made in Aggravated Assault

Tucson, Arizona - The University of Arizona Police Department (UAPD) arrested Kaitlyn Clemins (31) and Jason Baez (19). Each will be charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon or Dangerous Instrument.

On January 19, 2025, at 02:14 a.m., while investigating an unrelated case, UAPD officers witnessed a fight in progress at the intersection of Tyndall Avenue and 4th Street. The immediate response and initial investigation by UAPD officers prompted a UAlert within two minutes for suspects seen with a firearm.

The UAPD Criminal Investigations Unit exhausted investigative leads and on March 6, 2025, with the assistance of 88-Crime, created an information bulletin asking the public for help to identify the suspects. On March 7, 2025, UAPD released the bulletin via social media. The next day, Clemins and Baez turned themselves in to UAPD detectives after seeing their photos on the bulletin.

While the investigation continues, this case underscores the professionalism and work ethic of the UAPD patrol officers and detectives and highlights the effectiveness of 88- Crime in Pima County.

"This case highlights the power of collaboration between law enforcement and the community. Thanks to the quick response of UAPD officers, the persistence of investigators, and the support of 88-Crime, we were able to find the suspects, demonstrating that public safety is truly a partnership," said UAPD Police Chief Chris Olson.

UAPD Detectives continue to investigate this case. Anyone with information about this case are asked to contact the University of Arizona Police Department non-emergency line (520) 621-8273 or 88-Crime (520) 882-7463.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
