TUCSON, Arizona – The University of Arizona Police Department (UAPD) arrested (cite and released) a University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Men’s Basketball player for assaulting a spectator.

On February 3, 2022, at approximately 8:10 p.m., players from the UCLA Men’s basketball team began exiting the court following the conclusion of the game against the University of Arizona at McKale Center, 1721 E. Enke Drive. As the UCLA team exited through a tunnel located at the northeast corner of the court, a UAPD officer observed a UCLA player turn toward the stands surrounding the tunnel and spit towards spectators. The incident was captured on video by spectators as well as the media. The player was identified as Micawber Etienne, a freshman with UCLA. UAPD spoke with the victim, who wanted to pursue criminal charges.

Etienne was contacted by UAPD shortly after the incident. He was cited and released for Assault with Intent to Injure, Insult, or Provoke – ARS 13-1203A3, a class 3 misdemeanor.
