2024 Arizona GOHS Grants Awarded to UAPD
Media Release
Tucson, Arizona - The University of Arizona Police Department (UAPD) has been awarded three grants by the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) totaling $23,956 for fiscal year 2024. These grants provide support toward the deployment of officers for DUI enforcement and underage alcohol consumption and possession violations in addition to traffic enforcement.
As part of an ongoing effort, UAPD supports the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force to conduct DUI and impaired-driver enforcement. UAPD received $10,000 in GOHS funding to assist UAPD in adding officers for DUI enforcement deployments.
Compliance with traffic laws is crucial to the safety of our community. UAPD received a $5,956 grant for pedestrian and bicycle safety enforcement deployments and a $8,000 grant for our Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.). With these grants, UAPD will be able to provide additional enforcement and education to the public during peak traffic periods and holidays.
UAPD reminds the community to remain alert while traveling, obey all traffic laws, avoid distracted driving and drink responsibly and legally.
GOHS, along with Director and Governor’s Highway Safety Representative, J.M. “Jesse” Torrez, remain partners with UAPD in the promotion of public safety through enforcement and education. For more information on these programs, visit the GOHS website at http://www.azgohs.gov/.
