2023 Arizona GOHS Grants Awarded to UAPD

Tucson, Ariz. – The University of Arizona Police Department (UAPD) has been awarded three grants by the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) totaling $25,195 for fiscal year 2023. These grants provide support toward the deployment of officers for DUI enforcement and underage alcohol consumption and possession violations in addition to traffic enforcement.  

As part of an ongoing effort, UAPD supports the Southern Arizona DUI Task Force to conduct DUI and impaired-driver enforcement. UAPD received $10,000 in GOHS funding to assist UAPD in adding officers and equipment for enforcement deployments.

Compliance with traffic laws is crucial to the safety of our community. UAPD received a $5,000 grant for pedestrian and bicycle safety enforcement deployments and a $10,195 grant for our Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.). With these grants, UAPD will be able to provide additional enforcement and education to the public during peak traffic periods and holidays.

UAPD reminds the community to remain alert while traveling, obey all traffic laws, avoid distracted driving and drink responsibly and legally.
