Lieutenant Alvarez began his law enforcement career in 1987, as a Reserved Deputy Sheriff with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. In 1990, Alvarez joined UAPD as a patrol officer. In 1992, Lieutenant Alvarez was assigned to the Metropolitan Area Narcotics Trafficking and Interdiction squad as a narcotics investigator and worked undercover enforcing narcotics laws within Pima County. Lieutenant Alvarez has served as acting field operations commander, public information officer, field training officer, firearms instructor, academy class adviser and investigations sergeant. Lieutenant Alvarez earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Justice Systems Policy and Planning and a Master’s in Administration, from Northern Arizona University. He currently serves as a lieutenant in the Field Operations Division.
